Member Highlights

Susan Peters, Ph.D. – Sue joined the Flagstaff Branch of AAUW when she relocated here in 2015.  She retired after 36 years as a biology professor at the Univ. of North Carolina at Charlotte. Born and raised in Los Angeles, Sue was a student at NAU from 1970-74, completing her BS and MS degrees.  She then went to the University of California at Davis and received her Ph.D. in vertebrate biology in 1980.  It was a big change when she moved to North Carolina in 1979 and began her academic career.  Living in the South required adjusting to the accents and humidity, but the warm people who greet you with hugs and food on every occasion led to many treasured friendships.  But family, old friends and her heart were in the West, so on retirement she moved back to the cool pines of Northern Arizona.  She loves to travel (mainly road trips), volunteers at the Museum of Northern Arizona, and is a precinct committee person for the Coconino County Democratic Party.  She is very interested in advancing the goals of AAUW in promoting education and opportunities for women.  Currently, Sue works with Christina Barsky on our AAUW branch Communications, helping to develop and maintain our Facebook page and our new Website.
